A Call for Art: Gallery U Boutique

EXHIBITION THEME: “Out of the Box"
“Out of the Box” is an expression that describes non-conformal, creative thinking. We are looking for artwork with this same expression. Submit your  most creative works - the ones that seem a little “off the wall”, different, or not like your others.

All local artists, established and emerging.

Artwork will be considered through digital jpeg submissions. Submissions are limited to a maximum of FIVE pieces. Acceptance into the exhibition is not guaranteed with entry. 

Submit up to 5 images. Artists are required to submit digital images in JPEG format to Please use “Out of the Box Submission” as subject of e-mail. 
Each digital image must be saved in JPEG format. If selected for the exhibition, you may be requested to submit a higher resolution image for possible use in advertising.
Label images with consecutive numbers from 1 - 5. Save in the following format: Last name_ First initial_ Title_Medium_Size_1; Last name_ First initial_ Title_Medium_Size _2. 
A list of the images labeled in consecutive order must accompany your submission. List must state the following: Image #, artist name, title, medium, dimension (h x w), year of completion, and price. 
Include an artist statement (not more than 3 short paragraphs) on the work submitted. Briefly explain your choice of media, artistic vision, process, subject matter, influences, etc. This will be used for reproduction in a complimentary exhibition catalog
July 26 - August 10, 2016: Submissions Accepted: On-line entries must be submitted to Please use “Out of the Box Submission” as subject of e-mail.
August 11 - 12, 2016: Artists’ will be notified of acceptance/rejection.
August 22 - 26, 2016: Accepted work to be delivered to Gallery U Boutique during opening hours (10-5, M-F). Accepted work may be refused if it does not conform to the image entry. No substitutions of accepted works will be allowed. All accepted work must remain in the gallery for the duration of the exhibit. All selected work must be available for sale.
September 1, 2016: Artists’ Reception (THURSDAY, 6-8 PM)
October 10 - 14, 2016: Pick up of unsold work during gallery hours. Artwork remaining after November 14 will be donated. 

Accepted works will be considered for sale at the price indicated. If sold, 70% of the selling price will be paid to the artist and 30% will be retained by Gallery U Boutique.  Artists will receive payment within 60 days of artwork sale date. 

Great care will be taken with all work, but artists are responsible for insuring their own pieces if they wish.  Gallery U Boutique will not be responsible for any loss or damage to work while on the premises or in transit to or from the gallery. Artists are advised to obtain their own insurance.

Artists will be responsible for delivery and return shipping of all their artwork. Shipped work must be packaged in a reusable container. NO STYROFOAM PEANUTS. A prepaid waybill for its return must be enclosed. Please make shipping arrangements through the U.S. Postal Service, DHL, FedEx, or UPS. COD returns are not acceptable.  The gallery accepts no responsibility for work not retrieved on the pick-up date.

Poetry reading this Sunday afternoon for "Ekphrasis: Art & Words"

Please join Gallery U this Sunday afternoon, April 17, 2016, at 2 PM for a poetry reading that highlights the current exhibit "Ekphrasis: Art & Words" featuring artwork and poetry inspired by one another. The reading will feature poets Gwyneth Green, Robert P. Langdon and John J. Trause.

The reading is a part of the Westfield Art Association's celebration of National Poetry Month which includes poetry activities and a visit from the Tiny Book Show — a collection of miniature books created by artists and writers from around the world. All are welcome!

Thank you to everyone who attended the preview at the Montclair Art Museum and our opening reception for "EKPHRASIS: Art & Words". Both were really wonderful events. Thank you to all of the artists and poets who participated. And thank you to all of the folks who provided the photographs from the EKPHRASIS events. "Ekphrasis: Art & Words" will be exhibited through May, 2, 2016.

Preview of "Ekphrasis: Art & Words" as part of the Montclair Art Museum's Free First Thursdays

We are very excited to be previewing our "Ekphrasis: Art & Words" exhibit at the Montclair Art Museum tomorrow, April 7, as part of their Free First Thursday. Our session runs from 5-7 with a poetry reading at 6. You can view the complete exhibit at our opening reception on Friday, April 8 from 6-8 PM with a poetry reading beginning at 6:45.

"Asbury Lanes" by Donald David

We are pleased to be exhibiting a brand new oil painting by artist Donald David. The piece is a interpretation of the classic Asbury Lanes in Asbury Park. The original measures 14" x 20" and is beautifully framed. We are also carrying reproduction prints that are matted to 12" x 16" and ready to frame. Pick yours up while supplies last.

SWART makes the Sunday New York Times

We are very pleased to have our current exhibition "SWART: An Exhibition of Artwork by NJ Social Workers and Art Therapists" featured in this past Sunday's New York Times Metropolitan section. The artwork is by artist Elaine Shor, an art therapist in private practice in Colts Neck, NJ. Artwork will be on exhibit through April 4, 2016.

Opening reception tonight for "Art In the Boutique: Sam Sinelnikov"

Please join us this evening, March 4, 2016 from 6-8 PM as we celebrate the work of artist Sam Sinelnikov. Nine watercolors are on exhibit as part of our "Art In the Boutique" series. We will also be selling jewelry which Sam carves from bone. "SWART: Artwork by NJ Social Workers and Art Therapists" is on exhibit in the main gallery. Both exhibits will be displayed through April 4, 2016.
